Fall & Winter 2011 Shoos

I always love how absurdly opposite shoo trends get as soon as the weather gets cold. Suddenly this and that are both in. Black and white, fat and skinny, too much and too little– all of it looks good because you are wearing so many articles of clothing anyway that something is bound to look good with something else in your ensemble. I can’t deny how exciting autumn is, though, to break out last year’s fashions and transition your wardrobe to this year’s look. Here are some of this fall and winter’s favorite opposite shoo trends:

1. Patent Leather vs. Suede:
One is shiny, one is matte– both of them were huge on this season’s runways. Together, they create a brilliant combination of natural materials. If you don’t believe in wearing animals, try vegan-friendly options that are also sweeter to your wallet.

Sam Edelman's "Nivan" (tan) $87.50

Betsey Johnson "Dita" (nude) $88.50

Nude genuine suede and nude genuine patent leather

2. Animal Skins vs. Satin:
Seek the wildest python, crocodile, alligator skins, but don’t forget your silky, smooth evening fabric. Be wild, be proper. Animal skins are not just limited to reptiles– remember your leopards and cheetahs too! Satin footwear is not just for prom and formals either, but look for them in chic flats that will take you from day to night.

Anne Michelle "Top Gun" (multi) $30.50

Steve Madden "Partyy-R" (pink) $99.50

A pop of color in reptile print and colorblocking, and a pop of color in satin with embellishments

3. Chunky Heels vs. Spike Heels:
You may be more comfortable in vintage-inspired chunky heeled shoes, but spike “stiletto” heels are always the sexiest. Both have made a sweeping appearance on this season’s runways, so get used to this pair of opposites! Practicality versus sexuality– pick your mood and choose your shoo.

Qupid "System" (blue) $28.50

Steve Madden "Sarrina" (blue) $84.50

A skinny heel and a chunky heel have such contrasting effects on similar blue suede pumps

4. Lacing vs. Buckles:
There are a couple of ways to fasten your shoos, but lacing and buckles are two opposites that prevail this season. How will you keep your booties on in the fall? Granny-inspired vintage lacing can actually be very sexy and modern, especially if it crisscrosses right over your bare skin and runs all the way up some seductive thigh highs. Be tough chic in buckle details that are appearing on both boots and heels this season.

Qupid "Ophelia" (brown) $36.00

Bamboo "Tinker" (black) $39.50

Details that fasten on your boots– lacing and buckles.
