Spring 2012 NY Fashion Week : Day 1

9AM : Nicholas K (Nicholas Kunz) presented an outstanding, nature-inspired Spring collection that ranged from tonal whites, sandy gold, seawater greens, natural blues, and all shades of grey. Layers don’t always have to be heavy and stiff– light fabrics, loose knits, and relaxed fits create a gorgeous organic, liquid illusion of movement. Standout looks:

10AM : Porter Grey‘s collection was inspired by garden parties from the 1950s and 60s– see the youth and flowering colors in the wearable separates and preppy shifts. Some standouts:

10AM : BCBGMAXAZRIA was sporty, sexy, and bright (with a hint of tribal)! As usual, designers Max and Lubov Azria delivered an abundance of silky dresses that the everyday woman could picture on herself. Paneling and colorblocking are more BCBG design favorites that returned to their collection, fresher and more energized than ever. Although difficult to choose, here are the favorites:

11AM : Richard Chai Love was snappy with flashes of spring color with strong lines present– whether in the patterns or lines of the pieces themselves. Edgy meets proper sport in his coed collection that had an “art district resort” vibe that I find so incredibly fun. As always, it’s like asking me to choose between my own children, but I adore these looks by Chai: (I am not posting menswear for simplicity’s sake, but the menswear beats the ladies’! See if you agree)

1PM : Supima brings us the luxurious cotton of our lives– grown only in the Southwest region of the United States and California. These gorgeous dresses had such a wide range from trailing trains to exaggerated slits and strong shoulder accents. See this video presented by Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week for highlights:

2PM : Tadashi Shoji nailed a collection of the garden variety. The Japanese designer’s gowns were ideally ethereal and utterly feminine, dashed with pretty florals, spring colors, and honey bee stripes. See these gorgeous pieces in motion:

2:30 : Make note of Candela‘s impeccable summer style! Tribal and exotic, these ready-to-wear pieces are to die for. High-waist shorts, tank dresses, and silky button-up tops have swirly stitched applique detaling, embroidery, and beading. Shop this New York based fashion brand at their updated website.
